Diet & Feeding

Secondary pest feeding on damaged grains, flour, cereal products, oily seeds, and sometimes the fungi growing on stored products.

Behavior Patterns

They are small, flattened, and highly mobile. They often hide in small crevices and can survive in very dry environments. They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult) and are attracted to high-moisture conditions in grain.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: Major economic pest that contaminates food sources with waste and promotes mold growth. Beneficial: Negligible; they are primarily considered a destructive indoor pest.
