Natural Habitat

Found globally in human dwellings, typically residing in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and carpet edges.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily targeting humans but also feeding on other warm-blooded animals if humans are unavailable.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without feeding.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy bites, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and psychological distress (insomnia/anxiety). They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits to humans.
