Natural Habitat
Found on the smooth bark of various hardwood trees, notably Crepe Myrtles, Oaks, and Maples.
Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that consume organic debris, fungi, algae, lichen, and mold on the surface of tree bark.
Behavior Patterns
Commonly referred to as 'bark cattle' due to their habit of herding in large groups. When threatened, they move in unison like a flock or herd to deter predators.
Risks & Benefits
They provide a benefit to the ecosystem as natural 'tree cleaners'. They are completely harmless to humans and trees, and they do not cause any damage to the bark or the health of the plant.
