Harvestman

Natural Habitat

Damp, shaded environments such as forests, gardens, under rocks, logs, and frequently on tree trunks or the exterior of buildings.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous and scavenging; they eat small insects, spiders, carrion, fungi, plant matter, and decaying organic material.

Behavior Patterns

Legs are used for sensing and movement; they do not produce silk or venom. They often aggregate in clusters for warmth and defense, and can shed a leg to escape predators (autotomy).

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans as they lack venom glands and fangs. They benefit ecosystems by acting as scavengers and controlling small pest populations in gardens.
