Lawn Prawn (also known as a Land Shrimp or Terrestrial Amphipod)
Scientific Name: Arcitalitrus sylvaticus
Order & Family: Order: Amphipoda, Family: Talitridae

Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed on decaying organic matter, such as rotting leaves and other detritus found in gardens.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal and require high humidity to survive. When they accidentally enter homes or dry surfaces, they cannot find moist soil and quickly die, often turning a distinctive pink or orange-red color after death.
Risks & Benefits
They are harmless to humans, pets, and structures. They benefit the ecosystem as decomposers by breaking down organic garden waste into nutrients for the soil.
