Behavior Patterns
This species goes through five nymphal stages (instars) before adulthood. The nymph shown is likely a late-stage instar. They are known for their defensive scent glands that release a pungent odor when threatened and for their tendency to Aggregate in large numbers.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a major agricultural pest that causes significant damage to crops. They are a nuisance to humans as they invade homes in autumn to hibernate. They do not bite or sting but can cause allergic reactions in some individuals and emit an unpleasant odor.
