Scavengers that feed on natural animal fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, and leather, as well as dried food products.

Larvae are avoidant of light and prefer dark, secluded areas. They go through multiple molts before pupating into adult beetles.

They are a common household pest that can cause significant damage to fabrics and stored goods. Their bristles can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some humans.
