Psocid (also known as Booklice)

Natural Habitat

Moist, damp, or high-humidity environments such as basements, crawlspaces, kitchens, and bathrooms. Often found on damp paper, cardboard, or moldy surfaces.

Diet & Feeding

Mainly micro-mold, fungi, organic debris, and starchy pastes found in book bindings or wallpaper glue.

Behavior Patterns

They are nocturnal or shade-loving insects that thrive in humidity. They do not fly (most indoor species are wingless) and reproduce rapidly in damp conditions. They do not build nests but aggregate near food sources.

Risks & Benefits

They are harmless to humans and pets, as they do not bite or transmit diseases. However, they are considered nuisance pests and their presence is often an indicator of high humidity or a hidden mold problem within the home.
