Natural Habitat

Found in pantries, food storage areas, and any place where dried food products are kept, especially in kitchens or food processing facilities globally. They prefer warm, humid environments.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous, primarily feeding on a wide variety of dried food products including grains, cereals, nuts, dried fruits, pet food, and pasta. They do not feed on whole grains but rather on processed goods or damaged kernels.

Behavior Patterns

These beetles are highly mobile and can quickly infest new food sources. They are not strong flyers but can travel short distances. Both larvae and adults cause damage to food products. Females lay eggs directly into the food source, and the entire life cycle can be completed in as little as 3-4 weeks under optimal conditions (warm and humid), leading to rapid population growth.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include contamination and destruction of stored food products, leading to financial losses for homeowners and businesses. They do not bite or transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits as they are considered a common pantry pest.
