Behavior Patterns
Larvae are elusive, avoiding light. They feed on natural fibers and detritus. They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). Adults are winged and attracted to light, feeding on nectar and pollen outdoors.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks: Damage to household items (carpets, clothing, upholstered furniture, stored foods). Can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals due to shed hairs. No known benefits in a household setting.
