Jumping spider
Scientific Name: Salticidae
Order & Family: Araneae, Salticidae
Size: Typically 1-25 mm (0.04-1 inch) in body length.

Natural Habitat
Widely distributed; found in diverse habitats including forests, grasslands, deserts, urban areas, and inside homes.
Diet & Feeding
Carnivorous; they are active hunters that prey on a variety of insects and other small arthropods, stalking and ambushing their prey.
Behavior Patterns
Known for their excellent eyesight, especially their forward-facing eyes, which they use for hunting and courtship. They do not build webs to catch prey but use silk for safety lines, retreats, and egg sacs. They are active during the day and are often seen 'pouncing' on their prey or exploring their surroundings with jerky, sudden movements.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered beneficial as they help control insect populations in gardens and homes. They are not aggressive towards humans and their bites are rare, usually only occurring if provoked. Their venom is not considered medically significant to humans, often resulting in mild, localized symptoms similar to a bee sting if a bite were to occur.
