Natural Habitat

Behavior Patterns
Alates (swarmers) emerge in large numbers during spring to mate and establish new colonies. They are attracted to light and shed their wings shortly after flight.
Risks & Benefits
Poses a significant risk of structural damage to homes and buildings. Beneficially, they decompose dead wood and organic matter in natural ecosystems.
