Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, specifically in bed frames, mattresses, box springs, and crevices near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood during the night.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal, elusive, and photophobic. They hide in tight cracks during the day and are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide emitted by hosts at night. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis.

Risks: Causes itchy welts, psychological distress, and potential allergic reactions. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. Benefits: None; considered a significant domestic pest.
