Varied Carpet Beetle
Scientific Name: Anthrenus verbasci
Order & Family: Coleoptera; Dermestidae
Size: Adults are approximately 1.7 to 3.5 mm in length; Larvae (which the image likely shows) are slightly longer, around 4-5 mm.

Natural Habitat
Typically found indoors in homes, especially in carpets, closets, and around wool or natural fibers. In nature, they are found in bird nests or bee hives.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural animal fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and dead insects. Adult beetles feed on flower pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are elusive and often found in dark, undisturbed areas. Adults are attracted to light and often found on windowsills. They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks: The larvae are a significant household pest that can damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery made from natural fibers. The tiny hairs on larvae can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' (skin irritation) in some people. Benefits: In nature, they act as decomposers of dried animal matter.
