Birch Catkin Bug

Woodlands, forests, parks, and gardens with host trees like birch and alder; often enters homes during cooler weather.

Feed primarily on seeds, sap, and catkins of birch (Betula) and alder (Alnus) trees.

Attracted to outdoor lights, often wandering indoors during autumn seeking shelter for overwintering. They emit a faint odor when disturbed and undergo incomplete metamorphosis.

Harmless to humans, pets, and indoor property as they do not bite, sting, or damage structure/clothing. Outdoors, they play a role in seed dispersal and the local forest food web, though large numbers can be a minor nuisance indoors.
