Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, particularly in heated buildings such as hospitals, hotels, and apartments; they often nest in wall voids, under floors, and behind baseboards.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous; they consume a wide variety of foods including sweets, fats, proteins, and other insects.

Behavior Patterns

They are known for 'budding,' where a portion of the colony moves to a new location with a queen. This makes them difficult to control with traditional sprays, which can cause the colony to fracture and spread.

Risks & Benefits

Significant indoor pest; they can mechanically transmit pathogens such as Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus, especially in hospital settings. They provide no significant benefits to the human environment and are considered a major nuisance.
