Diet & Feeding
They feed on plant juices by sucking from the roots or seeds of plants.
Behavior Patterns
As their name suggests, they are adapted for burrowing in the soil. They are often nocturnal and can sometimes be attracted to lights at night. They undergo simple metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans. While they feed on plants, they are rarely significant agricultural pests unless present in very large numbers. They contribute to the ecosystem as part of the soil food web.
