Natural Habitat
Indoors, they are commonly found in homes, museums, and warehouses where they feed on natural fibers. Outdoors, they can be found on flowering plants.
Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on pollen and nectar. Larvae feed on a wide variety of animal and plant products, including wool, silk, feathers, leather, fur, dried meats, museum specimens, animal carcasses, and sometimes pantry items.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are often attracted to light and may be found near windows. Larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas. They undergo complete metamorphosis. The larval stage is responsible for most damage, as adults do not feed on household materials.
