Behavior Patterns

They have a very rapid life cycle (8-10 days). Adults are attracted to the smell of fermentation and are most active during the day, particularly in the morning and evening.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a nuisance pest. They do not bite but can mechanically transfer bacteria from waste to food surfaces. In science, they are highly beneficial as a primary model organism for genetic and developmental research.
