Near the scalp on human head hair, most commonly found behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.

Diet & Feeding

N/A (Embryonic stage); adults and nymphs feed on human blood.

Behavior Patterns

Glued firmly to hair shafts by the female louse using a waterproof cement; they take about 7 to 10 days to hatch.

Risks & Benefits

While they do not spread disease, they cause itching, scalp irritation, and psychological distress. They are considered an obligate parasite of humans.
