Giant Leaf-footed Bug

Found in woodlands, forest edges, and urban gardens throughout the southern United States and Mexico.

Herbivorous; feeds on plant juices from various trees and shrubs, particularly those in the Sapindaceae family like soapberry.

Diurnal insects known for the leaf-like expansions on their hind tibiae; they are slow movers and often bask on foliage. Hemimetabolous life cycle involving egg, nymph, and adult stages.

Generally harmless to humans though they may emit a pungent odor if threatened; can be minor garden pests but typically do not cause significant agricultural damage.
