Natural Habitat
Found worldwide, primarily in human dwellings, living in cracks of bed frames, mattresses, and furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to molt at each stage.
Risks & Benefits
While not known to transmit diseases, their bites cause itchy red welts (as shown in the image) and can lead to anxiety, insomnia, or allergic reactions. They are significant household pests causing economic and psychological distress.
