- Adults are approximately 4 to 5 mm (about the size of an apple seed); nymphs are smaller and translucent.
Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, specifically cracks and crevices near human sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, and furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate blood-feeders, primarily consuming human blood but may bite other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal insects that emerge from hiding at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without a blood meal.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and psychological stress/insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits in human environments.
