Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, predominantly in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas (beds, furniture, baseboards).
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous (feeds exclusively on blood, primarily human blood).
Behavior Patterns
Nicticoreal (active at night); they use heat and CO2 to locate hosts. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (eggs, five nymphal stages, and adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, insomnia, and psychological distress. While they do not transmit pathogens, they are a significant nuisance pest. No known ecological benefits in human habitats.
