Diet & Feeding

Behavior Patterns

They move slowly and cannot jump or fly. They attach their eggs (nits) to hair shafts and spend their entire life cycle on the host, usually spread through close physical contact.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include intense itching (pruritus) due to an allergic reaction to their saliva and potential secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit systemic diseases but indicate a need for medical treatment.
