Size: Larvae are typically 1/4 to 1/2 inch (6–12 mm) long; the case expands as they grow.

Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, particularly in dark, undisturbed areas like closets, under furniture, and in storage bins containing natural fibers.
Diet & Feeding
Keratin-rich materials including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and leather. They may also consume dead insects or stored pantry goods.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae construct a portable cylindrical case made of silk and debris (like carpet fibers). They carry this shell with them as they move, extending their head and legs to feed and retreating inside when threatened.
Risks & Benefits
They are a significant domestic pest, causing irreversible damage to carpets, clothing, upholstery, and heirlooms. They provide no significant benefits to human environments.
