Casemaking Clothes Moth (Larva)

Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, particularly in dark areas like closets, drawers, or under furniture where natural fibers are stored.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on animal-based materials including wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair. They can also consume synthetic fibers if they are soiled with food or sweat.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a portable silken case incorporating bits of the material it is feeding on. It remains inside this case and drags it along as it feeds, eventually pupating inside it.

Risks & Benefits

They are a significant indoor pest that can cause extensive damage to clothing, upholstery, rugs, and historical artifacts. They pose no direct health risk to humans but can be economically destructive.
