Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, found particularly in closets, drawers, or storage areas with natural fibers like wool, silk, or fur.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on keratins and natural animal fibers, including wool, silk, hair, feathers, and lint, but can also consume grains or spices.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silken case (often carrying it while feeding) and incorporates fiber fragments into it for camouflage. Adults are short-lived and do not feed, preferring to hide in dark crevices rather than flying near light.

Risks & Benefits

This is a significant household pest that can damage carpets, upholstered furniture, and clothing; it offers no significant human benefits and requires environmental management to control.
