Behavior Patterns

Larvae are photophobic (avoid light) and prefer dark, secluded areas. They undergo several molts, leaving behind bristly shed skins like the one shown. Adults are attracted to light and feed on pollen and nectar.

Risks & Benefits

They are a household pest that can cause significant damage to fabrics and stored goods. Their barbed hairs can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. They do not bite or transmit disease.
