Larvae eat natural fibers like wool, silk, feathers, and dried insect specimens. Adults feed on pollen and nectar.

They undergo complete metamorphosis. Adults are attracted to light and are often found near windows. They are active during day and night depending on life stage.

Risks include damage to household textiles and personal belongings. Some people may experience allergic reactions (dermatitis) to larval hairs. They serve as scavengers in the ecosystem by breaking down organic matter.
