Natural Habitat
Gardens, orchards, agricultural fields, and urban areas wherever aphids are present.
Diet & Feeding
Carnivorous; primarily consumes aphids, scale insects, and other soft-bodied garden pests.
Behavior Patterns
Active hunters that crawl along stems and leaves searching for prey. They undergo four larval instars before pupating into adult beetles.
Risks & Benefits
Extremely beneficial for biological pest control in gardens. While the larvae are harmless to humans, the adult form can be a nuisance when they congregate indoors in autumn and may occasionally nip at skin.
