Booklouse

Indoor environments, particularly damp areas, bathrooms, kitchens, libraries, and around books or stored food where mold or fungi can grow.

Starch, mold, fungi, algae, and organic debris found in paper, bindings, wallpaper paste, and dry food products.

They are wingless, move quickly when disturbed, prefer high humidity to survive and reproduce, and are often seen scurrying across walls, books, or shelving.

Risks: They do not bite humans, transmit diseases, or feed on blood, but large infestations can contaminate stored food and damage books or wallpaper. Benefits: They serve as a food source for other predators and can indicate excessive indoor humidity.
