Bed Bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius

Size: 4 to 5 mm (adults), roughly the size of an apple seed.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, hidden in cracks, crevices, mattress seams, and bed frames where they have easy access to human hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily targeting humans but also feeding on other warm-blooded animals if a human host is unavailable.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they emerge at night to feed and hide during the day. They have a hemimetabolous life cycle (egg, nymph, adult) and can go months without feeding.
Risks & Benefits
Risk: Causes itchy welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress/insomnia. Unlike ticks or mosquitoes, they are not known to transmit diseases to humans. Benefit: None to their environment or ecosystem.
