Natural Habitat

Intestines of carnival mammals (primarily dogs and cats); found as proglottids in fecal matter, pet bedding, or on animal fur.

Diet & Feeding

Absorbs nutrients through its skin from the host's intestinal tract.

Behavior Patterns

Moist, fresh proglottids are mobile and crawl out of the host's anus; they eventually dry out, resembling yellow-gold seeds, and release eggs.

Risks & Benefits

Parasitic risk to pets and occasionally humans (especially children) if an infected flea is accidentally ingested; causes mild gastrointestinal issues but is easily treatable with anthelmintic medication.
