Natural Habitat
Found globally in human dwellings, typically nesting in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and carpet edges.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal, emerging from hiding at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult). After feeding, they return to hiding to digest and mate.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, stress, and secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known ecological benefits for humans.
