Size: Approximately 12 to 17 mm (0.5 to 0.7 inches) in length.

Natural Habitat
Native to Asia; invasive in North America and Europe. Frequently found in orchards, vegetable gardens, and entering homes in autumn to overwinter.
Diet & Feeding
Polyphagous herbivore; feeds on over 100 plant species including apples, peaches, tomatoes, corn, and soybeans using piercing-sucking mouthparts.
Behavior Patterns
Known for releasing a foul odor when threatened or crushed. They aggregate in large numbers on warm surfaces and seek shelter inside buildings during cooler months (diapause).
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Major agricultural pest causing damage to fruit and vegetable crops; nuisance pest in homes due to overwintering behavior. Benefits: Ecological prey for some spiders, birds, and specialized wasps, but overall largely considered a pest in non-native ranges.
