Natural Habitat

Found worldwide, typically in pantries, kitchens, and food storage facilities where dried goods are kept.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on various dried foods including cereals, nuts, seeds, flour, pasta, dried fruit, and chocolate. They are scavengers that prefer broken grains over whole kernels.

Behavior Patterns

They are highly active crawlers that can squeeze into very small crevices of food packaging. Unlike most beetles, they do not fly, but they can move quickly through stored products and complete their life cycle in as little as 25-50 days.

Risks & Benefits

They are major household and commercial pests that cause significant economic loss by contaminating food with waste and body parts. They pose no direct physical risk to humans (no biting or stinging), but infested food should be discarded.
