Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Larvae scavenge on natural fibers such as wool, silk, fur, and feathers, as well as dried food products and dead insects.

Behavior Patterns

The larvae are slow-moving and avoid light, often hiding in dark crevices, under furniture, or within the folds of fabric. They undergo several molts, leaving behind distinctive empty skins.

Risks & Benefits

While they do not bite humans, they are major household pests that can damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Their shed hairs can also cause allergic reactions or skin irritation (dermatitis) in sensitive individuals.
