High-humidity environments like old books, pantries, damp basements, or under bark

Microscopic fungi, mold, spores, yeast, and starchy materials such as book glue

Mainly active in humid conditions; they move in short, jerky bursts and do not fly (though some species have wings, those found in homes are usually wingless)

Harmless to humans as they do not bite or spread disease, but can be a nuisance and signal high moisture/mold issues in the home
