Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on keratin-rich animal fibers such as wool, fur, feathers, and silk, as well as dead insects or skin flakes.
Behavior Patterns
The larva constructs a protective, portable silken case incorporating fibers from its food source. It carries this case with it as it moves and feeds, eventually pupating inside of it.
Risks & Benefits
They are a significant domestic pest that can cause extensive damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. They do not pose health risks to humans but can be economically destructive.
