Indoor environments where food is stored, such as pantries, kitchens, and food processing plants.
Diet & Feeding
Stored grains, flour, cereal, nuts, dried fruits, pet food, and birdseed.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae spin silk webbing as they feed, which contaminates food. They are most active at night and seek out dark, enclosed spaces for pupation.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Major pantry pest that causes significant food waste through contamination (silk, droppings, and cast skins). Benefits: None for humans; they are a nuisance pest but do not bite or spread disease.
