Clover Mite

Natural Habitat

Found worldwide, often on lawns, clover, grasses, and weeds. They are frequently seen crawling on windowsills, siding, and concrete walls, especially on the sunny side of buildings during spring and fall.

Diet & Feeding

They feed on plant fluids, primarily from clover, grasses, and various lawn weeds. They do not feed on humans or animals.

Behavior Patterns

Active primarily in cooler weather (spring and fall). They invade homes in large numbers seeking warmth or if their host plants dry up. When crushed, they leave a characteristic reddish stain.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: They are a nuisance pest indoors because they invade in large numbers and can stain fabrics, curtains, and walls with red pigment when crushed. They do not bite or transmit disease. Benefits: Minimal ecological benefit in urban environments; they serve as a food source for some other predatory arthropods.
