Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Nicturnal insects that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult phases) and are known for hitchhiking on luggage or clothing to spread.

Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While they are not known to transmit diseases, heavy infestations can lead to secondary skin infections from scratching.
