Order & Family: Order: Siphonaptera, Family: Pulicidae (common types)
Size: Typically 1.5 to 5 millimeters long.

Natural Habitat
Found in environments where host animals rest or sleep, such as pet bedding, carpets, and floor crevices. Provide dark, humid locations.
Diet & Feeding
Adult flea excrement (flea dirt, which is partially digested blood), dandruff, and other organic debris.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are largely blind and avoid light (negatively phototactic). They undergo three larval stages (instars) before spinning a cocoon to pupate.
Risks & Benefits
While larvae themselves do not bite, they develop into adult fleas which are parasitic, causing itching, potential allergic reactions (flea allergy dermatitis), and transmitting diseases or tapeworms.
