Feeds on sludge, slime, fungi, algae, and decomposing organic matter within the gelatinous biofilm of drains

Behavior Patterns

The larvae live within the slime or film of plumbing. They undergo full metamorphosis with a larval stage lasting roughly 9 to 15 days, followed by a short pupal stage before emerging as adult fuzzy-winged flies

They are not harmful to humans or pets as they do not bite or transmit diseases, but their presence can indicate a hygiene issue or a leak; they can be a nuisance in large numbers
