Natural Habitat

Inhabits buildings, specifically dark, undisturbed areas like closets, attics, and behind baseboards where natural fibers are stored.

Diet & Feeding

Keratin-rich organic materials including wool, fur, feathers, hair, silk, and sometimes dried food or leather.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silk case covered in debris or material from its food source. It carries this case as it feeds and eventually pupates inside it. It can crawl onto walls or ceilings when searching for a place to pupate.

Risks & Benefits

Significant household pest that can cause irreversible damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery made from natural fibers. They do not bite humans or pets.
