Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; uses a piercing-sucking mouthpart to feed on a wide variety of plants, including fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental shrubs.

Behavior Patterns

Known for releasing a pungent chemical defense when threatened or crushed. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis and are notorious for congregating in large numbers on buildings or indoors during autumn to overwinter.

Risks & Benefits

Significant agricultural pest that causes damage to crops and ornamental plants. While they do not bite or sting humans, they are considered a nuisance pest indoors. They offer little benefit beyond being a food source for certain generalist predators like spiders or birds.
