Jumping Spider

Natural Habitat

Found worldwide in diverse environments including tropical forests, temperate forests, grasslands, scrublands, and urban areas like gardens and houses.

Diet & Feeding

Primarily carnivorous, eating insects and other spiders. They are active hunters that use their keen eyesight to stalk and pounce on prey.

Behavior Patterns

Diurnal hunters with excellent vision. They do not build webs to catch food but use silk for safety tethers when jumping and for building 'pup tents' for shelter or egg-laying. They are known for complex courtship dances.

Risks & Benefits

Generally beneficial to the ecosystem and humans as they act as natural pest control by eating flies and other insects. They are generally harmless to humans, and while they can bite if mishandled, their venom is not medically significant.
