What Bug Identifier’s AI can and can’t do — and what you agree to when you use it.

    Bug Identifier uses artificial intelligence to identify bugs, insects, spiders, and other arthropods from photographs. We make no guarantees, representations, or warranties — express or implied — about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any identification, description, or assessment produced by the service, including our encyclopedia, reference pages, guides, and articles.

  2. 02.AI limitations

    AI models can make mistakes, misinterpret visual features, or produce inaccurate results (commonly referred to as “hallucinations”). The AI may identify the wrong species altogether, misstate physical characteristics, or describe habitat, behavior, or risks incorrectly. Photographs alone are often insufficient to distinguish visually similar species — many insects and spiders cannot be reliably told apart without close physical examination by an expert.

  3. 03.Encyclopedia and reference content

    Bug Identifier’s encyclopedia, reference pages, guides, articles, and similar content are compiled and generated with the help of automated tools and AI models and are provided for general information only. They may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information, they have not been reviewed by qualified experts, and the images shown alongside them may be illustrative rather than exact matches. The same is true of any other information presented on Bug Identifier, including identification results shared by other users. Do not rely on any of it for a decision that could affect your health, safety, property, legal rights, or finances.     You are solely responsible for how you use identification results. Always verify important details independently — through reference materials, a qualified entomologist, or a licensed pest-control professional — before relying on an identification for any decision.

    Identifications must not be used to determine whether an insect, spider, or other arthropod is safe to touch, handle, or approach, whether it bites or stings, whether it is venomous, or whether it carries disease. A misidentification could lead you to handle a dangerous species believing it is harmless. Treat unknown bugs with appropriate caution regardless of what the AI reports, and seek immediate medical attention for any bite or sting causing concern.

    Nothing produced by Bug Identifier constitutes medical advice, pest-control consulting, agricultural guidance, entomological certification, or any other form of professional advice. Do not use identification results to diagnose or treat bites, stings, or allergic reactions, or to decide whether an infestation requires professional treatment.

  7. 07.User-provided information

    Identifications may rely on photographs, location details, and notes submitted by users. We do not verify user-provided information, and results that depend on it may be affected by its accuracy.

  8. 08.Community content

    Public identifications shared to the community feed are AI-generated content submitted by other users. They carry the same limitations described here and have not been reviewed by experts.

  9. 09.Limitation of liability

    To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bug Identifier and its affiliates will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on AI-generated identifications, descriptions, or assessments, including personal injury, illness, property damage, or financial loss.
