Natural Habitat
The ear canals and surrounding skin of mammals, particularly dogs, cats, and ferrets.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on epidermal debris, ear wax, and tissue fluids from the surface of the ear canal.
Behavior Patterns
They are highly contagious among animals and reproduce rapidly, completing their life cycle in about 21 days. They cause intense itching, leading to scratching and head shaking.
Risks & Benefits
Can cause severe irritation, secondary bacterial or fungal infections, and potential hearing loss if untreated in host animals. Human infestation is rare but can cause temporary dermatitis.
